Pope Francis Condoles families of Ethiopian plane crash
Pope Francis, in a telegram, through Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Secretary of State has sent his condolences to their families of the victims of the Ethiopian Airlines which crashed near Bishoftu, some 50km from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, killings all the 157 people on board.
Pope Francis prayed for “divine blessing of consolation and strength” all affected families and offered “prayers for the deceased from various countries.”
The United Nations, having a large number of its contingents on their way to Kenya for a conference, said “It is one of the biggest catastrophes we have had in years,” Michael Moller, Director-General of the U.N. European headquarters in Geneva, told a meeting on Monday.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in a statement, said 19 of the dead are from at least five U.N. and affiliated agencies.
